Dev Log #32

This week was mostly about planning out v0.5. Crafting needs a complete overhaul and NPCs need to be cleaned up but the main focus will be characters! Girlzilla's storyline just ends abruptly right now because the continuation will effectively be a new location. The core elements required to build a location are pretty much finalised so I can finally start the next stages of her story! I don't like to give too much away but expect something gentle.

To balance that out I'll also be adding a new character with a more... violent approach to your existence. Similar to Girlzilla, the new character's story will be split in half. The first section will be unaware but once she finds you there will be a whole new layer to the gameplay. I posted some art of this character months back so I'm looking forward to actually bringing her to life.

Speaking of art, I've decided on the final style of the game. Until now my plan was to have hand drawn art but some rough maths shows that if I paused development today and did nothing but draw pictures it would take almost a year! That just isn't feasible, especially since the game would still be less than half done and I have other commitments in life. So, starting from now all art in the game will be in a CGI style. The renders will be similar to the ones currently in the game but with better lighting and more consistent characters. It feels like a bit of a bait and switch since all the thumbnail art on Itch.io is hand drawn but I hope you'll all agree that it's the best choice!

Despite all that it's been fun drawing again and I want to keep developing those skills. You might see some more art of characters from the game but more likely I'll be exploring other ideas.
