Dev Log # 22

Lot of progress on events this wee, mostly with Emily/Girlzilla. They're still in draft stage but I know enough of what's happening in each to start putting together the placeholder art. That process is always inspiring as I setup the background and models so I often end up with art for extra events. Girlzilla's room is going to get a lot more interesting in the next build and I'm pretty excited!

I did still do a little code editing but it was mostly just tidying up a few spelling mistakes and any energy that wasn't spent on developing the events went to art. I still need a background for the crafting area in Titania's room but once that's done the graphics for the camp in her room will be complete! At that point I can start replacing the text menus with buttons and the camp will suddenly feel a lot more immersive. The art is still in progress and won't be interesting to look at even when it's done which means I won't have anything to show. I want more splashy art to show off my progress so the next piece will probably be a character study again. Art is still the biggest problem since every event will need at least one custom piece and most events need multiple. I'm looking for ways to simplify the style without getting too far from the work I've already put in so I'll probably do some pieces experimenting with style too.

Another thing I've been working on now and then is additional music. I want there to be some background music when the player is exploring to highlight the idea that you are being active in the world. Having the same piece of music play over and over could get annoying so I'm trying hard to make it as subtle as possible and to have a few variations. I've also made a few pieces with specific emotions or feelings in mind, like dread, awe or calm. The idea is that these will be played during relevant events and means I don't have to write a custom piece of music for every event. It's a soundtrack technique I've never used but it's a classic one so hopefully it turns out ok!

Overall a very productive week!
